Thesis Title: Postconflict Community Development in Sierra Leone
About
Beginning Fall 2010, I will be joining the Organizational Leadership program in the Department of Political Science and Criminal Justice as an Assistant Professor or Organizational Leadership. I received my Ph.D. from the University of San Diego's School of Leadership and Education Sciences. My research focus was postconflict community building in Sierra Leone. I also have an undergraduate and graduate degree in social work and a graduate degree in international development from the University of Pittsburgh.
My research interests are in the areas of postconflict community development, community leadership, peace leadership, issues of the individual versus the collective or communal, and qualitative methods.
Prior to NKU, I taught in the leadership minor at the University of San Diego's Department of Leadership Studies and for Ashfofd University's Social Science Department, National University's School of Business Management and in the San Diego Community College Distrcit's College of the Emeriti.
My work experience has been primarily in NGOs in Bosnia-Herzegovina, Pittsburgh, and San Diego around issues of elections monitoring, refugee return and resettlement, community development, elections, and youth nonviolence. In addition to my studies, I also ran the Global Center at the University of San Diego's School of Leadership and Education Sciences for three years.
I am involved in the International Leadership Association, Community Development Society and its International Committee, and the Peace and Justice Studies Association. I have presented at each association's annual conference. I am also a member of the Alumni Association Board of Directors for the Semester at Sea program.
